Some great advice from Scott Simon.
Recently I also came across a useful movie that shows how a good narrative can simplify a complex issue. As it is in Dutch I added English subtitles to it.
The story is told by the City Planner of Amsterdam (the Netherlands). It is a part of a documentary that discuss what to do with Amsterdam if it wants to maintain its presence and significance in international trade. Within just one minute he is successfully applying Stephen Denning principles of launching springboard story. Principles are:
- Story is crystal clear
- It is a true story
- Point of view of a single protagonist
- Protagonist is typical of the audience
- Story gives the date and place
- What would have happened without the change idea
- Story is told with little detail
- Story has a positive tone
Check the movie here:
