I'm in the process of cleaning out my filing cabinets today—what joy—and discovered this quote:
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift
And the rational mind is a faithful servant.
We have created a society that honours the servant
And has forgotten the gift—Albert Einstein

Shawn,
I appreciate this quote. Many people think we can templatize and codify, judgment, decision making and problem solving. However, we can never fully express or assess everything that went into a decision. It is ineffable.
The minute we can reiterate all that went into a decision, we are no longer making judgments, we are calculating.
Making judgments is what humans do that computers and robots cannot. It is the essence of human work and creativity. It is what organizations hire people to do.
I blogged about this at: http://www.missionmindedmanagement.com/taking_the_judge_out_of_judgment_02_oct_2007

Love it! This will be my quote for 2008 and go at the front of my diary to remind me to honour the gift.

I had a hunch that quote would turn up somewhere soon.
