Power of storytelling

By Mark. Filed in Narrative, Storytelling.

We have blogged previously about 50 Lessons, a site featuring over 500 short videos of business leaders describing some of their key learnings. There are two videos here that describe why stories are powerful. Well worth a look.

It is interesting how Jay hardly uses narrative to convey his message. I disagree with his advice on keeping stories short. It depends on the culture of the organisation. We've found that some organisations naturally tell longer stories while others prefer short ones. Being categorical is misleading. He was playing the role of the expert and being the authority. We need to be sceptical of such forthright advice.

William, on the other hand seem more credible because he tells one of his own stories to illustrate his point and also makes the important point that leaders need to do remarkable things for stories to be told.
