Manassas, VA.
Police received a call around 1:15 a.m. for a "women threatening to drink a Diet Dr. Pepper and burn a building" at Ashton Glen Apartment Complex, according to Louie Houston, a spokesman for the Prince William County Police Department. Authorities arrived the apartment complex to find a corner apartment engulfed with smoke.
No one was injured during the blaze, Houston said, and the fire was under control by 5:48 a.m. Fire officials classified the cause of the fire Monday evening as arson.
Tuesday afternoon, police located the women who threatened to burn the apartment. The damaged apartment was being rented by a woman who was described the suspects sister, who had made interesting statements to her, according to police.
According to police and neighbors, this isn't the first time firefighters have visited the apartment. In the past 30 days, firefighters have been called to the apartment for two different cats stuck in trees — with the most recent on Sept. 15, Houston said.
Eduardo Sanchez, who lives two doors down from the apartment, arrived home and heard a person screaming that the apartment was on fire. Sanchez said he rushed inside his apartment to grab some of his belongings. While inside, he heard a women from the apartment that was on fire say, "I love firefighters, I cant wait til they get here"
Sanchez's apartment was also damaged in the fire. He moved in three months ago.
The blaze damaged six apartments.
"The fire was in one building and it moved pretty rapidly," according to Battalion Chief Stephen Prince, of the Prince William Fire Department Department. "It jumped to a second building, which is why it became a second-alarm."
No charges have been filed. The fire remains under investigation. It is believed Jessica Yankovitz started the fire in hopes of being saved by one of the firefighters. By the looks of the picture she got what she hoped for. Red Cross is assisting the people whose apartments were damaged.
