What makes a blog post worth commenting on?

Something Shawn and I have chatted about is what makes a blog post worth commenting on. Having a browse through some of our most commented on blogs over the last year I must say I’m none the wiser…

Shawn seems to think that blog posts that are ‘potato peeler’ blog posts are the ones which get the comments. In other words, blog postings which are common variety and able to meet many levels of experience can grab a comment. What do you think?

What makes a blog post worth commenting on?
Something I've been (subliminally) thinking about for some time.
I think a new way of writing is necessary - a way of writing that thinks, 'How can I include someone in 'my' conversation' ... and attempts to steer each conversation towards another blog post - the conversation is the catalyst.
The blog becomes a 'learning community' and the blogger becomes the facilitator of conversations. By becoming 'involved' and 'included' in this 'learning community' (coComment useful here) the 'visitors' become 'participants, and 'contributors' and therefore feel part of a learning community.

Hi Tony, you blogger as facilitator is an apt analogy. I suspect many blogs, and I fear this one is included, is blogger as lecturer. I tend not to bounce off other bloggers posts. I read them but tend to find inspiration for posts from conversations with clients and friends (many times they are one and the same) and reading books and articles. I chatted to Nancy White about this while I was in Seattle and she said, don't worry about it. So while I aspire to be a blogger facilitator I suspect I will be mainly throwing out ideas and see what response I get.
